The cinematic venture "Stree 2," featuring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, stormed the box office on Independence Day, shattering all projections. This film has undermined the opening day collections of 2023’s blockbusters "Animal" and "Pathaan," which previously garnered 63.8 crore and 57 crore rupees, respectively. Following its preview screenings on Wednesday evening, "Stree 2" officially premiered on Thursday.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh reports that the film amassed an impressive 64.8 crore rupees across both days, with 9.4 crore rupees generated on Wednesday and 55.4 crore rupees on Thursday. Thanks to its stellar performance, "Stree 2," led by Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, now claims the second spot among Bollywood’s top openers, displacing "Animal."
In her role as Vicky’s love interest, Shraddha Kapoor, despite her limited screen time, masterfully conveys a spectrum of emotions through her expressive eyes, showcasing a performance rich in subtlety. However, it is the uproarious and uninhibited ensemble of Vicky, Jana, Bittu, and Rudra that truly captivates, delivering a performance brimming with exuberance. Pankaj Tripathi, with his meticulous attention to detail, shines through his impeccable facial expressions, vocal inflections, and precisely timed gestures, while Abhishek Banerjee’s magnetic presence often steals the show.
Rajkummar Rao’s portrayal is notably more impactful than in his recent outings, despite being confined to a less substantial role. Aparshakti Khurana’s performance is adequate, while Sunita Rajwar injects infectious energy into a more eccentric version of her character from the web series "Gullak." Among the cameos, Akshay Kumar, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Varun Dhawan deliver their roles with expected proficiency.
