Sri Lanka: 21 killed, over 35 injured after bus falls off cliff.

A tragic bus accident occurred in the Gerandi Ella area near Kotmale, Sri Lanka, resulting in the deaths of at least 21 people and injuries to 14 others.

The accident involved a state-run passenger bus traveling from Kataragama to Kurunegala, which skidded off the Nuwara Eliya-Gampola main road and plunged down a steep slope near a popular scenic waterfall. The bus was carrying nearly 50 passengers at the time.. The driver survived the crash and is currently receiving medical treatment. Rescue operations are ongoing, with emergency services and local residents working together to assist the victims. The injured have been transported to nearby hospitals. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident. The incident has raised renewed concerns about road safety in Sri Lanka’s mountainous regions, where poor road conditions and reckless driving often lead to fatal crashes.
