Mexican Sailboat crashed Brooklyn Bridge in New York

The Mexican Navy’s tall ship ARM Cuauhtémoc crashed into the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City after losing power during a training voyage.

The vessel, carrying 277 people, drifted into the bridge around 8:26 p.m., and its 147-foot-tall masts struck the underside of the structure, causing severe damage to the ship’s rigging.

Tragically, two people aboard were killed and 19 others were injured, including four in critical condition. Emergency responders from the FDNY, NYPD Harbor Unit, and U.S. Coast Guard arrived quickly, and all injured individuals were transported to local hospitals.

Despite the impact, the Brooklyn Bridge did not suffer major structural damage, and traffic resumed by 10:30 p.m.The Cuauhtémoc, a symbolic goodwill training vessel of the Mexican Navy, had been docked at South Street Seaport and was departing on its annual cruise. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the incident, with the Mexican Navy pledging full transparency.
