Qatar World Cup 2022: organizers forced to apologize over misbehaviour with Danish TV crew

World Cup 2022 organizers had to apologize after Qatari security guards tried to prevent a Danish TV reporter from working in a public place. Indeed, the organizers admitted that TV2 reporters were "mistakenly misbehaed with" while working in Qatar, the Guardian reported Nov. 16.

Reporter Rasmus Tantholdt was broadcasting live for a Danish station when three security guards approached and covered the camera lens.

"You invite the whole world to come here, why can't we film? This is a public place," Tantholdt said in English. "Do you want to break the camera? Are you threatening us by breaking the camera?" Mr. Tantholdt's words were recorded.

After reviewing the equipment of the reporters, the security officers at the scene apologized to the journalists and let Mr. Tantholdt's team continue their work.

The incident occurred with only five days left before the opening of the 2022 World Cup. The incident also raised questions about how the organizers arranged the locations where filming was allowed. World Cup organizers have denied reports that they have tightened the areas where media can film in Qatar.

The Danish Football Association has been one of Qatar's harshest critics of the host country's treatment of migrant workers.

The Danish team's third jersey is also dominated by black tones, with a printed logo, to show support for the workers. The uniform also carries a message of remembrance for those who have died in Qatar.
