World Guinness Record: 106-year-old Texas man retakes skydiving status

This was only his second skydive- his first occurred three years earlier on his 100th birthday.

Alfred “Al” Blaschke, a 106-year-old man from Texas, USA, has reclaimed the title of the world’s oldest tandem skydiver.

At the time of his jump, Al was 106 years and 327 days old, surpassing the previous record by over three years. His skydiving journey began in 2020 when, at the age of 103, he leaped out of a moving plane from 14,000 feet to celebrate his twin grandsons’ college graduations.

Remarkably, this was only his second skydive- his first occurred three years earlier on his 100th birthday. After a Swedish woman named Rut Linnéa Ingegärd Larsson broke his record in 2022, Al decided to reclaim it. Joined by Texas Governor Greg Abbott, Al finally made the jump on November 27, 2023.

Despite weather challenges and scheduling delays, they soared to an altitude of 9,000 feet, attached to expert instructors, and exited the plane into free fall. Al’s children, grandchildren, media representatives, and government officials watched from below.

Deploying his main parachute at 5,500 feet, Al safely glided down and even congratulated Governor Abbott on his first skydive. Al’s inspiring message to the press: “If you think you can’t, you’re just underestimating yourself. Everyone is more capable than they think; they just need to make the decision to try”.
