Cambodia calls for immediate ceasefire with Thailand; 13 killed in border clashes

Cambodia and Thailand have been involved in intense border clashes that started around July 24, 2025. The fighting erupted near disputed areas along their shared border, especially around the Preah Vihear and Ta Moan Thom temples—sites with a long history of territorial disputes.

The conflict has led to dozens of deaths and forced over 160,000 people to flee their homes. Both sides have exchanged artillery fire and accusations.

Cambodia has demanded an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, while Thailand has been hesitant, saying a truce depends on certain conditions, including Cambodia stopping hostilities first.Regional players, especially Malaysia as ASEAN chair, and the United Nations have called for peace and tried to mediate a ceasefire.

But as of now, fighting continues and the situation remains fragile. The main issues revolve around historical border claims and nationalist tensions.
