The Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture (IGCIC) under the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), successfully hosted an engaging Tabla Workshop titled “Classical Roots”. The event was inaugurated by the Director of IGCIC, Dr. Kadambini Acharya, and conducted by Shri Kunal Kale, the newly joined Tabla Guru and performer at IGCIC.
The workshop was attended by over 100 enthusiastic participants, including children and music lovers from across Mauritius. Students experienced the joy of Indian classical rhythms through interactive sessions and hands-on tabla activities. The event created a vibrant atmosphere of learning and cultural exchange.
Dr. Kadambini Acharya, Director of IGCIC, said that workshops like these strengthened the cultural bridge between India and Mauritius. She added that through rhythm and art, the Indian heritage continues to vibrate globally.
Shri Kunal Kale is an internationally acclaimed Indian classical percussionist, an Artist of All India Radio (AIR), and a disciple of Taal Yogi Padmashri, Pt. Suresh Talwalkar, and Shri Nitin Pawar. He has performed globally at prestigious festivals like Boysun Bahori, Sharq Taronalari, and the International Jazz Festival in Tashkent. Recently appointed as Tabla Instructor at IGCIC, Mauritius, he aims to spread the beauty of Indian rhythm culture and nurture young talents in the country.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Kunal Kale said, “Indian classical percussion is a universal rhythm that unites cultures. I am delighted to begin my journey in Mauritius and share the heritage of tabla with this vibrant and enthusiastic Mauritian community.”
This workshop reflects ICCR’s vision of strengthening cultural ties and promoting Indian classical arts internationally.
