India’s active COVID-19 cases surpassed the 4,000 mark on Tuesday, just three days after crossing 3,000, according to data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The sharp rise is primarily driven by new infections reported in Kerala, Maharashtra, and Gujarat over the past 24 hours.
According to data from the Ministry of Health, India recorded a rise of 65 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, while 512 people recovered or were discharged during the same period.Between Monday and Tuesday, five COVID-related deaths were reported across the country—one each in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal, and two in Maharashtra.
The fatality in Kerala involved an 80-year-old man who had severe pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), diabetes, hypertension, and coronary artery disease. In Maharashtra, the two deaths were of a 70-year-old woman with diabetes, and a 73-year-old woman with both diabetes and hypertension.
