Japan: Tokyo marks 70th anniversary of Godzilla with giant display

"Godzilla," the sea-born monster has terrorised Tokyo for decades.

Godzilla has returned and is once again attacking Tokyo in an event organised by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.

The municipal government has planned to develop a projection-mapping display on the landmark Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) skyscraper throughout the year, using the skyscraper as a canvas to display art with light and sound while also creating a new tourism destination.

As part of this endeavour, TMG will begin displaying content featuring "Godzilla," the sea-born monster that has terrorised Tokyo for decades, on April 27. This year commemorates the 70th anniversary of Godzilla's birth.

Godzilla debuted in the 1954 film of the same name and has since appeared in 33 Japanese films, five American films, video games, novels, comic books, and television series.

Godzilla is a prehistoric reptile monster that was resurrected after many years by nuclear radiation.
