The runway was closed for 20 minutes while repairs were made by the airfield crew.

Passengers were informed of up to 60-minute delays for departures and 20-minute delays for arrivals. Due to storm activity, there were flight cancellations and diversions.

Ahead of Taylor Swift four-day Eras Tour, the star’s private jet encountered a 30-minute delay due to the storm while flying from Melbourne to Sydney.

Swift, along with her team, departed Melbourne around midday on Monday for her upcoming four-day Eras Tour in Sydney. She safely landed at 1:25 pm. After arriving, she was expected to head to a penthouse at Crown in Barangaroo. Swift, aged 34, will perform four shows in Sydney before continuing to Singapore.

Meanwhile, in Sydney, more than 13,000 homes in the city’s northern beaches lost power just before 1 pm due to heavy rain, strong winds and lightning.

Areas including Fairlight, Manly, Balgowlah, Balgowlah Heights, Seaforth, Manly Vale, Killarney Heights, and Mosman were impacted. Power restoration was estimated to occur by 3 pm.

The Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe thunderstorm warning for heavy rainfall, damaging winds, and large hailstones across much of New South Wales.

The heaviest downpours were recorded in Kings Langley, in Sydney’s north-west, with 48 mm of rain falling in an hour.

The storm also caused chaos on the train network: the T1 North Shore Line was shut down, impacting train flow on the T9 Northern, T2 Inner West, and T3 Bankstown Lines. Platforms at Wynyard, Town Hall, and Central were heavily congested.

Earlier, four people were struck by lightning near the Sydney Opera House, prompting a mass blackout and disruptions to the rail network.
