Lead vocalist and pianist of Coldplay, Frontman Chris Martin announced in 2019 that the band will put touring on hiatus while they considered how to make their shows more ecologically friendly.

Two years later, the rock band announced its Music of the Spheres tour, along with a goal to reduce emissions from show production, freight, and band members' and crew's travel.

The achievement is due in part to audience engagement, with fans producing energy by leaping up and down on kinetic dance floors and pedalling on specially modified bikes. The band also pledged to plant a tree for every single ticket sold during their performances.

The trip's innovative tactics, which invited the public to participate in the eco-friendly project, resulted in 59% less production than their previous stadium tour in 2016-17, Coldplay stated. The band stated that the data had been confirmed by the MIT Environmental Solutions Initiative.

The global stadium tour began in Costa Rica in March 2022 and will conclude later this year, with stops in Finland, Greece, Australia, and New Zealand.

In a more extensive analysis of actions taken, the band stated that 7 million trees have been planted, 18 gigs in 2023 would be powered entirely by a system using recycled BMW i3 batteries, and 72% of all tour debris has been removed from landfills.

Coldplay acknowledged "all the brilliant people who've made this possible."

However, the crew said: “As a band, and as an industry, we’re a long way from where we need to be on this. But we’re grateful for everyone’s help so far, and we salute everyone who’s making efforts to push things in the right direction."
