Did you know? : You can borrow a person instead of a book in Denmark’s 'Human Library'

Working along similar lines, an international non-profit organisation based in Denmark's capital city has been working since 2000 to give people the opportunity to not criticise others through its 'Human Library'.

This is the concept behind the 'Human Library,' also known as the living library, which is founded on the age-old philosophy of information sharing. So, in the 'Human Library,' people can loan humans instead of books, where 'humans' are referred to as 'books,' and re-borrowed by readers, who can ask whatever questions they wish to better understand the other person and confront their own prejudices.

At this library, you can choose a book, or a person, and borrow it for 30 minutes, during which you can listen to their tale and ask them questions.

According to its official website, the library acts as a safe area for debate, where visitors are invited to express whatever questions they may have. The Human Library's publications depict groups in society that face stigma and discrimination.

The Human Library has organised events in over 80 countries, including libraries, museums, festivals, conferences, schools, and colleges.
