Anouk Garnier, an obstacle course world champion, broke the record by climbing to the second floor of the Eiffel Tower. The French athlete broke the men's and women's world records for rope climbing by ascending the Eiffel Tower's second level.

The 35-year-old climbed 110 metres in just 18 minutes, with her friends and family cheering her on. Through this initiative, Garnier collected funds for the organisation League Against Cancer after her mother was diagnosed with cancer.

She has won the World Obstacle Course Racing Championship twice, most recently in 2022. Garnier trained for a year before completing the assignment.

The previous record was held by South African Thomas van Tonder, who climbed 90 metres.

Garnier will return to obstacle racing and will carry the Olympic torch for France during the ceremony in May 2024.
