American actor and film director Bill Cobbs died at the age of 90. He was renowned for his roles in Hollywood blockbuster movies like "Night at the Museum," "The Bodyguard," "Air Bud" and more.
In a statement shared by his representative, his family stated they were “saddened” by his death. “On Tuesday, June 25, Bill passed away peacefully at his home in California. A beloved partner, big brother, uncle, surrogate parent, godfather and friend, Bill recently and happily celebrated his 90th birthday surrounded by cherished loved ones," the statement continued.
According to the obituary, he sold cars, and later served in the United States Air Force before becoming an actor.
Cobbs began acting when he was 36. His first professional acting role was in "Ride a Black Horse" with the Negro Ensemble Company. He proceeded to appear in small-scale theatre shows before his first television role on "Vegetable Soup," a New York public television instructional series.
Cobbs' acting career took off after that, with him landing numerous roles on television and in film. His portfolio eventually comprised more than 100 feature films and television episodes.
Taking multiple roles, some of Cobbs most memorable films were "The Bodyguard" in 1992, in which he portrayed Devaney, co starred with Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston , the 1997 Disney feature "Air Bud," "Night at the Museum" in 2006 and "Oz the Great and Powerful" in 2013.
He has also appeared in various television shows, including "The Michael Richards Show," "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," "The Carmichael Show," and "The Sopranos."
He directed the film "The Meeting," which is about Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X.
Cobbs' last acting performances included the 2024 television programs "Diarra from Detroit" and "BMF."
