A train crash in the eastern Indian state of West Bengal killed eight persons and injured approximately 25 more.

A train carrying goods collided with a stationary passenger train, the Kanchenjunga Express, in the New Jalpaiguri district on Monday morning.

Dramatic footage from the accident site shows one waggon of the express train dangling in the air.

The cause of the accident has not yet been identified, but authorities said a thorough investigation will be conducted.

Indian Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that ambulances and emergency teams have been dispatched to the site to assist with rescue efforts.

"The injured are being transported to a hospital. "Senior officials have arrived," he wrote on X, the former Twitter.

The railways have set up a control desk with a helpline number at Rangapani station, near where the crash occurred.

Last year, a tragic disaster involving three trains in the eastern state of Odisha killed over 290 people and injured over 1,000.
