India: One dead at Delhi airport after roof collapse smashes cars

A roof at Delhi Airport collapsed following heavy rain, killing one and injuring four others.

All departures from the terminal have been temporarily halted, and check-in counters have been stopped. Authorities say the incident occurred around 05:00 (23:30 GMT Thursday).

Rescue activities are underway at the airport, and those injured are receiving treatment in hospitals. Airlines were advised by India's aviation regulator to provide refunds or accommodate passengers on other flights.

The families of the deceased will receive 2 million rupees ($24,000; £19,000) in compensation, while the injured will receive 300,000 rupees, according to Indian Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu

In order to stop such incidents, he also assured reporters that everything was under control and that an inspection was being conducted. He said that all structures in Indian airports would also be examined.
