A fire broke out in a newborn care centre in India's capital on Saturday night, killing seven infants, according to a fire department officer.
Emergency services rescued 12 other new born from the centre and were brought to a neighbouring hospital, but seven died from smoke inhalation, according to fire officer Atul Garg.
The remaining five babies survived and are being treated for smoke inhalation, he said.
Suresh Kumar, another fire officer, reported that the fire on the centre's first level was doused within an hour. The cause of the fire in Vivek Vihar, east Delhi is being probed.
Earlier on Saturday, at least 27 people were killed in a large fire at a busy amusement park in Rajkot, Gujarat, western India.
