Restaurant’s roof collapse makes four dead and 16 injured on Majorca beach

According to a local police, the terrace collapsed owing to excessive weight.

Four people were killed and 16 injured after a building collapsed on a beach in Majorca, with more still thought to be trapped inside. The roof of Palma's two-story Medusa Beach Club fell around 8.30 p.m. local time.

Seven individuals were "very seriously" hurt, while nine were seriously injured, according to emergency services posted on X.

Palma, Mallorca's capital, is a renowned tourist destination.

Firefighters were seen taking individuals from the building, with some being carried out on stretchers while ambulances waited outside. Crowds gathered outside the restaurant as emergency crews worked to clear the wreckage, according to social media footage.

According to a local police, the terrace collapsed owing to excessive weight. However, he stressed that the cause is still under investigation.

Spain's Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, said he was closely following the situation and that his administration would be prepared to deploy "all the means and personnel that are required." He continued: "I want to send my condolences to the families of the deceased and my wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured."
