Solar Eclipse 2024: Rare phenomenon covers skies in North America

Darkness shrouded the sky across North America on Monday as a total solar eclipse traced its path across the continent, exciting those fortunate enough to witness the sight through clear skies.

Eclipse mania overtook Mexico, the United States, and Canada when the moon covered the sun, blocking out the sunlight.

It was the continent's largest eclipse audience ever, with several hundred million people living in or around the shadow's path, as well as dozens of out-of-town visitors.

Tourists arrived at Niagara Falls State Park under gloomy skies, bringing waggons, strollers, coolers, and lawn chairs. Park officials anticipated a large gathering at the famous viewpoint above the falls.

Darkness continued for 4 minutes and 28 seconds. This is nearly twice as lengthy as it was during the US coast-to-coast eclipse seven years ago. It will be another 21 years before the United States experiences another total solar eclipse on this scale.

The next total eclipse will occur on August 12, 2026, and will envelope a majority of the northern hemisphere.
