Turkey : Istanbul nightclub fire makes 29 dead

An investigation into the fire has begun, and arrest warrants have been filed for five individuals.

On Tuesday, a fire broke out inside an Istanbul nightclub during renovations, killing at least 29 people, according to officials and reports. Several people, including club management, were held and questioned.

At least one person was being treated in a hospital, according to a statement from the Istanbul governor's office.

The Masquerade nightclub, which was initially closed for maintenance, was located on the ground and basement floors of a 16-story residential building in the Besiktas neighbourhood on Istanbul's European side, separated by the Bosphorus.The fire was later put out.

Istanbul Governor Davut Gul told reporters on the site that the cause of the fire was being investigated, and the victims were thought to be involved in the renovation work.

Authorities detained five persons for questioning, including club managers and one person in charge of renovations, according to Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc.
