BSF Jawan Purnam Kumar Shaw, who had been in the custody of Pakistan Rangers since April 23, 2025, was handed over to Indian authorities at approximately 10:30 AM on May 14, 2025, at the Joint Check Post in Attari, Amritsar. The handover was conducted peacefully and in accordance with established protocols.
Shaw, a constable with the Border Security Force, had inadvertently crossed the international border near Firozpur, Punjab, a day after the dastardly April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in which terrorists opened fire in the Baisaran valley, killing 26 people, therefore leading to his detention by Pakistan Rangers.
