Egypt's Al-Ahram Studio, one of the world's oldest, was devastated by fire.

After hours, firemen brought the fire under control, and numerous buildings near the studio in Cairo's Giza area had to be evacuated.

Emergency personnel treated persons on the site for smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is unidentified.

The studio was created in 1944. Several films and television shows were created there and aired all over the world. The studio includes three production stages, a screening room, and an editing suite.

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and other authorities visited the location to inspect the damage.

The fire started 24 hours after the production team concluded filming its Ramadan television series, local media reported.

According to AFP, tenants in adjoining buildings were still sleeping on the ground in nearby streets at dawn on Saturday.

The fire caused damage to the exterior of seven buildings. In a statement released by Arab News, the prime minister provided compensation to impacted families.
