Innovation: Ro-boat cleans the Yamuna River in New Delhi

To combat water pollution in rivers, Aakash Sinha, a young Indian entrepreneur, has proposed the Ro-boat as a technical solution to counteract the pollution of the country's rivers.

The Ro-Boat can detect, collect, and eradicate a wide range of contaminants, including chemical compounds and floating garbage. The machine's robotised arms can be trained to collect various types of sludges before unloading the waste.

The Ro-Boat can operate automatically with minimal human involvement. It is equipped with anti fog lighting and a panoramic zoom camera, allowing it to work in any weather conditions.

It also has an array of solar panels and a double helix motor, allowing it to manoeuvre while using less energy. The boat has the unique ability to totally submerge in the river and recover contaminants from the riverbed.

The Ro-Boat was successfully tested in New Delhi's Yamuna River as part of the Ministry of Water Resources' Ganges River Action Plan. The engineers who designed it predict that 50 of these devices could clean the river in six months.

The edging technology is still in the development and experimental phase, with the goal of increasing its load capacity. Its designers are in discussions with the Indian government about expanding its use.
